Hello dear readers! Today I’ll be doing a quick photo tutorial for a 3-stitch i-cord bind off. This bind off creates a lovely edge for collars, cuffs, and hems, and is especially nice for stockinette stitch as it prevents the edge from curling. It can be used in the round or on flat knit items. This technique is used in my latest design, the Winnie jumper, which is available on Ravelry now. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: When you come to the end of your knitting and are ready to bind off, cast on three (or however many the pattern indicates) stitches.
Step 2: Knit two stitches (or one less stitch than the number you cast on) in step 1.
Step 3: Knit the next two stitches together through the back loop.
Step 4: You’ll now have three stitches on your right needle. Slip these stitches back onto the left needle.
Repeat steps 2 through 4.
When you have three stitches left, either bind off these three stitches normally or cut thread and pull through remaining stitches. Weave in ends.
And now you have a nice clean edge with no curling!
